WhatsApp auto-replies and the 24-hour rule nobody explains clearly

WhatsApp is where customers expect the fastest, most direct answers, and it's also the platform with the strictest rule: once 24 hours pass since a customer's last message, you can't just send them a free-form reply anymore. WhatsApp requires a pre-approved template message outside that window. Most people only find this out after a message fails to send.

Inside the 24-hour window, reply naturally

As long as a customer messaged you in the last 24 hours, you can send anything, in your own words, same as texting. This is where most of your conversation happens, and it's exactly where automated replies save the most time, since WhatsApp questions tend to be short, direct, and repetitive (price, hours, "are you open now").

Outside it, don't pretend the rule doesn't exist

A broadcast message or a follow-up to someone who went quiet for more than a day needs a template WhatsApp has already approved, not a fresh free-text message. Any tool that promises to "just send" outside that window either isn't being honest about what WhatsApp allows, or it's quietly skipping those customers. Good automation should skip them too, not try to work around the rule.

What this looks like with ReplyzHub

ReplyzHub connects to WhatsApp by scanning a QR code, no WhatsApp Business API approval process needed. Inside the 24-hour window, your rules answer in your own words, same as any other platform. A broadcast feature respects the window automatically, anyone outside it is skipped rather than silently failed.

  • Connect with a QR scan, no Meta Business verification wait.
  • Replies inside the 24-hour window are automatic, in your own tone.
  • Booking requests can flow straight into a confirmed appointment, with you approving the final booking.

If you've ever had a WhatsApp message just silently fail to send, this 24-hour rule is almost always why.
